Since the end of the 1970s, Québec universities, through the Conference of Rectors and Principals of Québec Universities (CREPUQ), have conducted student exchange programs with over 500 universities or university consortiums in the following countries : Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France (including Île de la Réunion, Guadeloupe, French Guiana and Martinique), Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom and United States.

These programs enable students who are registered full-time at a university (home institution) to pursue part of their education at another university (host institution) for a term, but no more than one year, and to earn credits from the host institution towards their degree from their home institution.
