Montreal, December 6, 2012 – The Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ) is extremely concerned about the effect of the government’s recently announced budget cutbacks on the universities’ ability to fulfil their mission with regard to teaching, research and creation, and services to the community.
Each university is convening its Board of Directors to discuss the budget cuts. CREPUQ has been mandated to consult on the same topic with unions, students and partners in the university communities.
CREPUQ will participate in the Higher Education Summit because the event is a crucial meeting that could have a decisive impact on universities and Quebec society as a whole.
CREPUQ includes all 19 Quebec universities. The organization acts as their voice in relations with government and milieus concerned with university education and research. It also fosters coordination and collaboration between universities, is a research centre for university administrations, acts as a centre for coordination and joint service delivery, and is a resource centre and think tank for its members.
