Universities will do everything they can to help students pursue their education

Montreal, May 17, 2012 – The Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ) wishes to emphasize that Quebec’s universities will work with CEGEPs and do everything within their power to help students pursue their education.

May and June are always critical months for thousands of college students. It is the time when they usually make their final decisions about academic programs and complete their university applications and registrations. This year, many students are concerned that the class boycotts in the CEGEPs will make it impossible for their university applications to be processed as usual. The rectors and principals would like to reassure students and their families that the universities are working closely with the CEGEPs so that CEGEP students who have met all admission requirements and wish to attend university this fall may do so with the least amount of complication,” said Luce Samoisette, Chair-Elect of the CREPUQ Board of Directors and Rector of Sherbrooke University.

Quebec universities, individually and as a group, intend to take whatever steps are necessary to ensure that students who complete their CEGEP winter semester in September can then go on to university in Quebec,” added Daniel Zizian, Director General of CREPUQ.

CREPUQ includes all 18 Quebec universities. The organization acts as their voice in relations with government and milieus concerned with university education and research. It also fosters coordination and collaboration between universities, is a research centre for university administrations, acts as a centre for coordination and joint service delivery, and is a resource centre and think tank for its members.
