Montreal, April 27, 2012 – The Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ) has noted with great interest the announcement made today by Premier Jean Charest and Minister of Education, Recreation and Sport Line Beauchamp.
“University rectors and principals hope that these measures will put an end to the conflict, allowing universities to continue fulfilling their teaching mission and students to complete their semester within a reasonable time. The measures announced today merit close consideration by all concerned,” said Luce Samoisette, Chair-Elect of the CREPUQ Board of Directors and Rector of Sherbrooke University.
“The universities are offering their complete cooperation to help return the situation to normal as quickly as possible, which is in the interests of everyone,” added Daniel Zizian, Director General of CREPUQ.
CREPUQ includes all 18 Quebec universities. The organization acts as their voice in relations with government and milieus concerned with university education and research. It also fosters coordination and collaboration between universities, is a research centre for university administrations, acts as a centre for coordination and joint service delivery, and is a resource centre and think tank for its members.
