Montreal, November 4, 2010 – The Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ) is very pleased with today’s announcement by Line Beauchamp, Minister of Education, Leisure and Sport, that a meeting of education partners regarding the future of our universities will be held on December 6. The Minister said that she intends to play an active role in ensuring the success of the meeting.
“Quebec’s universities care about providing students with an excellent education that meets the highest international standards. Everyone involved in the process must work together to determine the best means to achieve that objective. The Rencontre des partenaires en éducation provides a unique opportunity to discuss university accessibility, financing and performance, from a perspective of continuous improvement,” said Denis Brière, Chair of the CREPUQ Board of Directors and Rector of Université Laval.
“Pursuing ambitious goals is what will raise Quebec among the ranks of the most educated and innovative societies in North America and the world. We must therefore reinvest in our university system while ensuring that no student with the desire or ability to obtain a university education is turned away for financial reasons,” noted Daniel Zizian, President and Director General of CREPUQ.
CREPUQ includes all Quebec universities. The organization acts as their voice in relations with government and milieus concerned with university education and research. It also fosters coordination and collaboration between universities, is a research centre for university administrations, acts as a centre for coordination and joint service delivery, and is a resource centre and think tank for its members.
