Statistical information system Equinox is launched

Montreal, May 11, 2010 – The Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ), under the aegis of the Library Subcommittee, is pleased to announce the launch of EQUINOX, a statistical information system developed in partnership with the University of Western Ontario Director of Libraries, to provide remote access in both English and French to the Statistics Canada collection.

EQUINOX will facilitate access to data files made available under Statistics Canada’s Data Liberation Initiative (DLI). The coast-to-coast bilingual system for accessing survey microdata and aggregate data will mean improved services for students, teachers and researchers in more than 50 colleges and universities in Quebec and across Canada. The official launch will take place Wednesday, May 12 at 5 p.m. in the atrium of the Université de Montréal humanities library (Bibliothèque des lettres et sciences humaines) as part of the 78th annual congress of ACFAS (Association canadienne-française pour l’avancement des sciences).

CREPUQ includes all universities in Quebec. The organization acts as their voice in relations with government and higher education. It also fosters coordination and collaboration between universities, is a research centre for university administrations, acts as a centre for coordination and joint service delivery, and is a resource centre and think tank for its members.
