Education a key concern at the 2010 economic meeting

Montreal, January 21, 2010 – The Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ) is very pleased with the education topics covered at the 2010 economic meeting that took place this week in Lévis.

“The heads of Quebec’s universities are delighted to note that education and innovation figured prominently in Premier Jean Charest’s statements during the two days of the economic meeting. There was also unanimous agreement on the importance of education during the three workshops examining the type of measures that will make the most of the economic recovery and ensure the best possible position for Quebec over a horizon of 10 to 20 years,” said Heather Munroe-Blum, Chair of CREPUQ and Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University.

“Education must be a top priority in Quebec. We are responsible for helping young people realize their full potential and be fully equipped to face the social challenges that lie ahead. This must be a joint effort. Business, municipal administrations, unions and social organizations have to support education at every level, from kindergarten through university,” added Daniel Zizian, President and Director General of CREPUQ.

CREPUQ includes all 18 Quebec universities. The organization acts as their voice in relations with government and higher education. It also fosters coordination and collaboration between universities, is a research centre for university administrations, acts as a centre for coordination and joint service delivery, and is a resource centre and think tank for its members.
