Quebec universities join in the combined effort to help Haiti

Montreal, January 15, 2010 – The Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ) wishes to express its solidarity with and support for the people of Haiti and the Haitian diaspora in Quebec, following the disastrous earthquake.

“Quebec’s university establishments want to convey a message of comfort to the people of Haiti during these extremely difficult times, and we invite the entire university community to show their support by making a donation to a recognized agency,” said Daniel Zizian, President and Director General of CREPUQ.

“We are all devastated by the tragedy in Haiti, and Quebec universities are joining in the combined assistance effort by offering to work with Quebec and Haitian government authorities to identify how they can support the Haitian university system,” added Heather Munroe-Blum, Chair of CREPUQ and Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University.

CREPUQ includes all 18 Quebec universities. The organization acts as their voice in relations with government and higher education. It also fosters coordination and collaboration between universities, is a research centre for university administrations, acts as a centre for coordination and joint service delivery, and is a resource centre and think tank for its members.
