First edition of Journées du Savoir : University establishments share their knowledge with the general public

Montreal, December 8, 2009 — The Conference of Rectors and Principals of Quebec Universities (CREPUQ) is delighted with the public response to the first edition of Journées du Savoir. Over the course of the event, which ran November 4-7 across the province, thousands of people took part in various activities and learned more about our universities, their projects and accomplishments.

Journées du Savoir provided a unique opportunity for our universities and associated establishments to share their knowledge with the general public. It also allowed us to make people aware of the wide range of activities taking place on our campuses.” said CREPUQ Chair Heather Munroe Blum, Principal and Vice Chancellor of McGill University.

“We are pleased to see that people are interested in learning more about the role our universities play, not only in education and research, but also in our economic, social and cultural development. Journées du Savoir is clearly an original way to satisfy their curiosity,” added Daniel Zizian, President and CEO of CREPUQ.

CREPUQ is grateful to the many partners who made Journées du Savoir possible. Special thanks go to the participating universities that put so much effort into creating a fascinating and entertaining program. Thanks also to the media for their support in promoting Journées du Savoir.

About Journées du Savoir

Journées du Savoir was created to make the general public aware of the important role Quebec universities play in our economic, social and cultural development and the real impact they have on society. Over the course of four days, November 4-7, 16 universities around the province organized more than 50 original activities, all of them free and open to the public. These included “Student for a Day”, field trips, guided tours, public lectures and many more.

It also fosters coordination and collaboration between universities, is a research centre for university administrations, acts as a centre for coordination and joint service delivery, and is a resource centre and think tank for its members.
