Records relating to legal matters dealt with or submitted to a court of law or an administrative tribunal for or against the institution:  legal correspondence and pleadings, statements, demands, directions, defence, actions, subpoenas and notices to appear, orders, discharges, garnishments, rulings, etc.

1 Retention:  Until settlement of the case (conclusion of proceedings, including rights to appeal, or until execution of judgement).
2 Retention:  10 years for records involving the institution after January 1, 1994; 30 years for records relating to legal proceedings involving the institution prior to December 31, 1993.
3 Archives selection:  Retention of records relating to legal proceedings with a major impact on university life, relations with clients or the institution’s activities:  procedures, exhibits, certified transcripts of out-of-court testimony, written submissions, arguments, transactions, discharges, etc.
4 Retention:  Until settlement of the case.
